Has Help to Buy helped the Wimbledon housing market?

Zoopla has calculated the areas of London where Help to Buy (H2B) has had the most dramatic effect on the housing market.

Tower Hamlets was the area with most Help to Buy sales followed by Barnet. Zoopla found that Waltham Forest had the biggest H2B increase in sales up by 240 per cent.

Although H2B was initially envisioned to get more first time buyers on the property ladder the price range for properties purchased varies considerably across the UK.

Zah Azeem, Partner at Scrivener Tibbatts said: “H2B has enabled many people to get on the property ladder even here in Wimbledon where one bed properties average £349,357*. Between its introduction in April 2013 and the end of last year 211,000 used a H2B equity loan, 81 per cent of them first time buyers.”
